A re-see at Place Vend&ocirc;me transforms Daniel Roseberry&rsquo;s latest vision into an intimate exhibition &mdash; a meditation on surrealism, craftsmanship, and the quiet power of detail.

Returning to Place Vend&ocirc;me after the Schiaparelli presentation felt like performing a quiet ritual. The square, with its mirrored air and perfect geometry, seemed designed to amplify what happens behind its gilded doors. This time, though, there was no runway&mdash;only stillness. The Spring&ndash;Summer 2026 collection had been reimagined as an exhibition, suspended in its own rhythm, breathing somewhere between past and present.
Without the speed of the show, Daniel Roseberry&rsquo;s &ldquo;hard chic&rdquo; revealed its precision. The iconic Schiaparelli jacket&mdash;sober, sharp-shouldered, and rigorously controlled&mdash;appeared without grandeur: a celebration of discipline charged with emotion. The same strength resonated in a series of long, lean column dresses that distilled the atelier&rsquo;s tailleur rigoureux spirit. Together, they formed a kind of visual score: restraint, tension, desire.
The palette, limited to black, bone white, and crimson, underscored a sense of focus. Every color felt weighted, every texture deliberate. In this restraint lay the collection&rsquo;s elegance&mdash;a reminder that excess can also whisper. Among the most evocative pieces, trompe-l&rsquo;&oelig;il jacquard knits based on Roseberry&rsquo;s own sketches recalled Elsa&rsquo;s surrealist sweaters. &ldquo;Shocking then, shocking now,&rdquo; he wrote in his notes, and in person, the phrase rang true. Fabric became drawing; drawing became body.
The exhibition began quietly, with a vision of precision and restraint: a slim single-breasted jacket in white linen, wool, and mohair, its purity interrupted by subtle 3D satin volumes at the waist. Shown with a matching pencil skirt with rounded piped pockets, the silhouette recalled the rigor of classic tailoring refracted through a surrealist lens. A glossy black hat and patent pumps with curved gilded heels shaped like sculpted hands completed the ensemble&mdash;a calm yet magnetic entry point into Roseberry&rsquo;s world.

Nearby, a small cardigan entirely embroidered with golden brass brushes transformed the act of painting into a metaphor for the making of fashion itself. Paired with a matching pencil skirt, the look merged the utilitarian and the sculptural, turning craft into reflection.

The dialogue of contrasts continued with two mirrored silhouettes. One&mdash;a slim-fit jacket in heathered ecru canvas, perforated in a polka-dot pattern and layered over a white shirt with matching cutouts&mdash;played with transparency and illusion. It was styled with black satin wide-leg trousers, mismatched hoop earrings, the black leather Soft Face bag adorned with anatomical bijoux, and hand-woven white leather derby boots with gilded eyelets. Opposite it, a supple black leather double-breasted jacket, accented with a gold chain and smoky-brown goat-hair polka-dot embroidery, was paired with a matching pencil skirt and curved gilded heels&mdash;two expressions of irony and discipline in perfect dialogue.

Among the close-up highlights, an asymmetrical black leather top revealed a trompe-l&rsquo;&oelig;il embossed bust inspired by the Maison&rsquo;s archives, while gilded bijoux buttons&mdash;miniature sculptures in themselves&mdash;spoke of the brand&rsquo;s enduring DNA. The Face bag, in white leather and adorned with tonal enameled anatomical bijoux forming a sculpted visage, captured the precise intersection of surrealism and craftsmanship.

The exhibition concluded with a duo of dresses that embodied the balance between humor and virtuosity. The first, a fluid brown tulle dress embroidered with white goat-hair polka dots and enhanced with fur appliqu&eacute;s at the shoulders, waist, and hem, was paired with metal hoop earrings covered in the same material and taupe suede sandals with curved gilded heels topped with sculpted hands. Next to it, a long black tulle gown&mdash;equally embroidered with goat-hair polka dots&mdash;appeared with matching gloves detailed with trompe-l&rsquo;&oelig;il red nails and luminous salt-stone earrings. Nude leather Measuring Tape sandals, adorned with the house&rsquo;s signature gold-metal detail, completed the look. Two interpretations of the same idea: lightness as luxury, irony as signature.

As I stepped back into the oblique Parisian light, Roseberry&rsquo;s words about the difference between entertainment and inspiration came to mind. In a world saturated with fleeting images, Schiaparelli offers something slower, more deliberate&mdash;a moment of contemplation. More than a collection, this was a meditation on the art of dressing, a reminder that even amid the noise, we can still dance&mdash;alone, unafraid&mdash;in the dark.
